How Structured Is Network School? What Is Optional vs Expected
Learn how much structure Network School imposes on members, what activities are mandatory vs optional, and how to design your own daily schedule.
Almost Everything Is Optional
Network School does not impose a rigid schedule on members.
Network School does not impose a rigid schedule on members. The Morning Burn, courses, speaker sessions, community events, and meals are all available but not mandatory. There is no attendance tracking or penalty for skipping activities. You are a paying member, not a student with grades. This means you have the freedom to design your days according to your own priorities. Some members attend every offering. Others focus primarily on work and only participate in a few activities per week. The structure exists as a scaffold you can lean on as much or as little as you want.
Social Expectations
While nothing is technically mandatory, there are social expectations that shape the culture. Attending the Morning Burn, showing up to community meals, and participating in at least some events are how you build relationships and integrate into the community. Members who isolate themselves entirely tend to miss the primary value of the experience. You will not be kicked out for being a hermit, but you will get less out of the program. The community notices and appreciates active participation. Think of it less as rules and more as a culture you are joining.
Designing Your Own Schedule
The most successful members create a personal routine that balances NS programming with their own work and goals. A common pattern is Morning Burn at 6 AM, breakfast and socializing until 8:30 AM, focused work from 9 AM to noon, lunch, an afternoon course or continued work, gym or sauna in the late afternoon, dinner, and optional evening events. This template provides structure while leaving substantial blocks for deep work. Members who struggle tend to be those who either engage with everything to the point of burnout or disengage entirely and wonder why they are paying $1,500 per month.
Finding Your Balance
The first week is a good time to sample everything and see what resonates. Attend every session, try every meal, go to every event. During week two, start being selective based on what you found most valuable. By week three, you should have a rhythm that feels sustainable and productive. If you are joining primarily to work on a project, block out non-negotiable focus time on your calendar and protect it. The community will respect your boundaries if you communicate them. You can apply at ns.com and start experimenting with your ideal schedule from day one.

“The beauty of NS is that it gives you structure without rigidity. You have a framework for your day, but you decide how to fill it. That balance is rare and powerful.”
