Forest City itself has limited dining options. As a largely vacant development, it does not have the restaurant density of a normal Malaysian town. There are a few food stalls and small restaurants within the development, but variety is constrained. Most members who want to eat outside the NS meal program venture to Johor Bahru or nearby areas. There may be convenience stores within Forest City for basic snacks and supplies. The limited food scene is one of the trade-offs of Forest City's isolation, and it is one reason the all-inclusive NS meal program is so valuable.

JB is a 30-minute Grab ride from Forest City and has an excellent food scene. Malaysian cuisine is one of the most diverse in Southeast Asia, blending Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences. Must-try items include nasi lemak (coconut rice with sambal and sides), roti canai (flaky flatbread with curry), char kway teow (stir-fried noodles), laksa (spicy coconut noodle soup), and satay (grilled meat skewers). Hawker stalls and local restaurants serve these dishes for $2 to $5 per meal. JB also has malls with food courts offering international cuisine, chain restaurants, and upscale dining options.

Singapore, about an hour from Forest City, is one of the world's great food cities. Hawker centres serve extraordinary meals for $3 to $8 SGD. Michelin-starred hawker stalls like Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice offer world-class food at street food prices. For variety beyond Malaysian cuisine, Singapore offers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Western, and fusion options at every price point. A food-focused day trip to Singapore is a highlight for many NS members. Chinatown, Little India, and the Maxwell Food Centre are popular destinations for food exploration.
