DE Rantau Digital Nomad Visa
The DE Rantau pass is purpose-built for remote workers. It costs RM1,000, requires $24,000 annual income (tech sector) or $60,000 (non-tech), and grants 12 months with renewal option. You can work legally for foreign clients and employers, and it makes opening a Malaysian bank account possible. Processing takes 5 to 15 business days. The main limitation is that you cannot work for Malaysian companies or earn Malaysian-sourced income. For most NS members staying three months or longer, this is the optimal choice — affordable, straightforward, and purpose-designed for the digital nomad lifestyle.
MM2H Long-Term Visa
Malaysia My Second Home is a premium long-term residency program. The Silver tier requires RM150,000 in fixed deposits and RM10,000 monthly income, while Gold requires RM500,000 and RM20,000 monthly income. The Platinum tier requires RM1 million in deposits. These tiers grant 5, 10, or 15 years of residency respectively. MM2H is overkill for most NS members unless you plan to make Malaysia your permanent base. The program includes property purchase rights, tax benefits, and the ability to bring a car duty-free. Application processing can take 3 to 6 months.
