One Month vs Three Months at Network School: Which Stay Length Is Right for You?

A one-month NS stay is a taste — you experience the community, sample the programming, and explore the environment. Week 1 is orientation and adjustment. Week 2 is settling in and starting to form connections. Weeks 3-4 are when you start to feel at home, which is exactly when you leave. Most one-month members report that the stay felt too short but was valuable for deciding whether to return for a longer period. One month is ideal for people who cannot commit more time, want to test NS before a longer stay, or are combining NS with broader Southeast Asia travel. You will make friends but rarely deep ones. You will learn but not master new skills.

Three months is the sweet spot for most NS members. The experience compounds over time: month 1 is adjustment and exploration, month 2 is deep engagement and productivity, month 3 is consolidation and meaningful output. By month 2, you have genuine friendships, a productive routine, and momentum on projects. By month 3, you are contributing to the community, mentoring newer members, and reaping the benefits of established relationships. Three-month members consistently report higher satisfaction and more tangible outcomes (completed projects, co-founder matches, deep friendships) than one-month members. The per-day cost effectively decreases as you get more out of each day.

Stay length affects your social position in the community. One-month members are perpetual newcomers — you are just getting comfortable when it is time to leave, and the community knows you will not be around long, which subtly affects how deeply people invest in relationships with you. Three-month members become pillars of their cohort. You are there long enough to see multiple cohorts arrive, which gives you institutional knowledge and social capital. Six-month members become community elders — they know everyone, understand the culture deeply, and have the most influence on community dynamics. Longer stays produce stronger network effects.

Choose one month if: you are primarily curious and want to explore, your work or personal commitments prevent a longer stay, or you want to test the waters before committing. Choose three months if: you have specific goals (launch a project, learn a skill, build your network), you can arrange remote work for the duration, and you want meaningful rather than surface-level connections. Choose six months if: you are making a major life or career transition, you want the deepest possible NS experience, or you plan to build something substantial during your stay. The most common regret among one-month members is not staying longer.
